Once again the weather gods had threatened to dampen the spirits of the competitors and marshals on this event. Thankfully the strong wind help reduce the promised rain to passing showers.
A slightly reduced field due to a couple of late withdrawals converged on The Bear, Burwash for a hearty breakfast. Once fully prepared the seven crews headed off for Regularity 1. This took the crews straightdown the OS199 and across a very windy Horse Eye before a welcome coffee break at The Bungalow Cafe on the A259.
The second regularity section saw the route wind its way up through Lunsford Cross, Catsfield, Penhurst to Brightling Triangle before continuing through Robertsbridge and Salehurst finally arriving at The Waterside Cafe on the outskirts of Hawkhurst for lunch.
The rain duly arrived for Regularity 3 which seemed quite fitting as part of the route ran alongside Bewl Bridge Reservoir. Several natural chicanes started to appear along the route as branches littered the road. The route took in some glorious countryside or it would have been if it had been midsummer. After passing briefly through Mayfield and Rotherfield the final coffee stop at the Garden Centre in Mark Cross saw all seven crews still battling on.
The final leg sent crews into Rotherfield, Jarvis Brook before meandering back to Burwash for a well earned pint.
Congratulations to all the competitors for completing the event in ever changing conditions and thank you to all the marshals who bravely stood in the rain and hurricane winds to sign the time cards.
At the time of writing, results are not available but someone won and somebody came last but everybody had fun !
