A brief look at the sort of events ERMC members compete in.

AUTOTESTS

This is probably the cheapest of all the events and the best place to start. Autotests can be run on either grass or tarmac. ERMC runs a series of grass autotests in the summer, usually on Friday evenings. The minimum age for competing is 14.

So what are Autotests?   A course is laid out with cones or markers and you are given a diagram of the route to take between them. You are then timed through the course with the quickest being the winner. As our events are run on grass they are non-damaging, so you can use your everyday road car. As you get more competitive you could progress to national events.

12 CAR   RALLIES

These are navigational trials held on public roads. They take various forms but the object is to navigate a set route by working out   instructions which can range from simple map references to slightly more difficult things such as tulips or herringbones and plotting them onto an   OS map. You have a set time to complete the route, collecting checks on the   way to   prove you have followed the correct route. ERMC runs a   six-round series between October and March. Prior to that we run a couple of navigational evenings teaching the finer points of   12 car rallying.

PRODUCTION CAR TRIALS or PCTs

Production   car   trials are   another cheap form of sport and can be done in a standard road car. They consist of a series of hills on grass or in woodland, each hill divided into 12   sections. Each section is numbered starting 12, 11, 10 and so on. The further up the hill you go the least number of penalties you score. The hills consist of twists and turns to test your skills.

REGULARITY   RUNS

These are similar to the twelve car rallies but are run   usually on a Sunday morning. Regularity sections are timed to the second and an event will consist of two or three sections and timed at an average speed of between 20 & 25 mph penalty's are awarded for being early or late into a control. They are a very social event and usually finish at a pub in time for lunch.

This is just a very small example the sort of events we run at ERMC. But there is virtually no limit to what you can do motorsport wise. We have members who have competed in all forms of the sport from circuit racing to rallying both in the   UK and abroad.
